Swiss Network’s Round Robin

At the TCS camping site in Sempach, fine dust measurements took place in winter 2017/18. 14 private and public measuring networks from Geneva to Graubünden installed their measuring instruments with the aim of achieving a uniformly high quality standard throughout Switzerland. Sempach is suitable for the measurements because there is a typical mix of immission loads from traffic, industry and heating plants in the Central Plateau.

This round robin test was conducted by inNET Monitoring AG on behalf of the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) and the participating environmental agencies under the supervision of the Cercl’Air working group “QA Immissions”. The objectives of this interlaboratory test under real environmental conditions were to identify errors in the HVS (DHA80) measurements and to verify the
measurement uncertainties. The whole process chain from HVS settings, filter exposure and handling, transport, conditioning, weighing and data delivery were to be covered.
The tests were performed for PM10 and for PM2.5. This round robin test is limited
to the gravimetric measurement method. Informatively, parallel to the HVS measurements, a Low
Volume Sampler (LVS) and an online monitor (Fidas 200S) were operated in parallel to the HVS measurements.
