Starting Apprenticeship at Digitel: Ali’s Story

Ali, a young member of the Digitel team with roots in Afghanistan, started his apprenticeship at Digitel Elektronik AG in the summer of 2025. We are delighted to welcome him as a motivated and ambitious colleague and wish him every success throughout his apprenticeship. Ali shares below how he found his way to Digitel and what he hopes the future will bring.

Ali, what led you to Digitel?
I had been living in Switzerland for one year, during which I attended school and searched for an apprenticeship opportunity. During this time, I completed several trial apprenticeships at different companies, known in German as Schnupperlehren. Through friends, I received a recommendation for Digitel. The company offered me the opportunity to complete a trial apprenticeship as an electronics technician. I liked Digitel very much, but at that time there was no open apprenticeship position in that field. Afterwards, I was able to spend another week in the workshop as a polymechanic, which I also found very interesting. A little later, Digitel offered me an apprenticeship in this profession, which I happily accepted.

We then discussed whether the EBA (Eidgenössisches Berufsattest / Federal Vocational Certificate) or EFZ (Eidgenössisches Fähigkeitszeugnis / Federal Diploma of Vocational Education and Training) would be the right level for me. In the end, we agreed on an Integrationsvorlehre / Preliminary Apprenticeship for Integration, in order to determine the most suitable option. I am presently in this phase from summer 2025 until summer 2026, after which I will be able to start my apprenticeship at EFZ level.

How has your time at Digitel been so far?
I feel very welcome at Digitel and comfortable within the company, which gives me a sense of security. I really enjoy my work, and there is always something new and interesting to learn. In January 2025, I already had the pleasure of attending Digitel’s New Year dinner. Afterwards, we all went to watch an exciting ice hockey game together, which was a great experience.

What do you hope the future holds for you?
At the moment, my apprenticeship is my most important goal. I want to complete it successfully and then make further professional plans for my future. Once I receive my B permit in two years’ time, I would love to visit my family abroad.

How do you like to spend your free time?
To balance work and sports, I train with the Volketswil sports club (Turnverein). I also enjoy cycling and swimming. During quieter moments, I like watching movies. One activity I particularly enjoy is cooking and sharing meals with friends while spending time in good company.

Thank you, Ali, for sharing these insights into your work and your life.
We also thank you for trusting Digitel with your apprenticeship and for the valuable contribution you already make to our team. It is great to have you as part of the Digitel family!
